Tax saving options available for NRI's

The following are the list of Tax Saving Options available for NRIs. As far as NRIs are concerned only limited tax savings options are available for them when compared to Resident Indians.

 

1. Section 80C of Income Tax Act 

a) Life Insurance and Retirement/Pension Plans – NRIs can buy retirement plan with or without life cover and also choose between a traditional plan (endowment, money-back) and a unit-linked plan depending upon your risk appetite. There is also a facility available with few insurers like LIC for NRIs to obtain insurance cover from their present country of residence where all formalities are completed in their present country of residence, subject to fulfillment of certain rules and restrictions on sum insured amounts and add-on riders. For more details please contact the Insurance Company or your Insurance Agent.

b) Investment in House property – Buying a house or flat in India availing of a home loan from Banks or Housing Finance Companies is a good investment/tax savings option for NRIs. The principal and interest payments made every year for a home loan availed in India are allowed as deductions subject to an overall limit of Rs 1 lakh per year on principal payments (under section 80C) and full interest payments made during the year (under section 24b) - in case of let-out property.

c) ELSS (Tax saving Equity Mutual Fund schemes) – ELSS are equity-oriented mutual fund schemes that directly invest in a diversified portfolio of shares in the Indian Stock Market. The tax savers can buy units of ELSS schemes directly from the respective Mutual Funds of can be purchased online, if they have enabled that facility with the Mutual Fund. There is lock-in-period of three years in the ELSS investments. These schemes are e ideal for long-term tax-free savings

2. Section 80D - Health Insurance Premium

NRIs can buy health insurance policy in India for themselves, their family and also dependant parents and claim deduction for the premium paid up to Rs 35,000 per annum Please note that, these deductions are available for a maximum amount of Rs 15,000 in case of non-senior citizens and Rs 20,000 for senior citizens.

3. Deductions u/s 80 

a) Deduction u/s 80G – Donations made to certain specified charitable institutions are only eligible to claim deduction under this section.

b) Deduction under 80E – for interest payment towards Educational loan taken from any bank/approved financial institution for higher studies (comprising full time as well as vocational studies pursued after passing senior secondary examinations studies) for self or any of immediate family members (children, spouse)

Note : The overall limit of deductions available on section 80C, 80CCC is Rs 1 lakh per annum.

The following Investment Options are not available for Non-Resident Indians

a) PPF (Public Provident Fund)
b) NSC (National Savings Certificate) - it is mentioned somewhere that, NRIs can buy NSC subject to certain Terms & Conditions, I am not sure about those Terms& Conditions. Better avoid investing in NSCs
c) Senior citizens savings account
d) Tax saving infrastructure bonds under section 80CCF
e) Post office time deposits are not available for NRIs.

However, if you had already invested in any of these investments when you were a Resident Indian, you can continue these investments till maturity. In case you made deposit in any of the above mentioned investment options as a Non-Resident Indian, if the authorities comes to know about this, your money will be refunded without any interest or capital appreciation.

How to clean the painting, picture and photo properly without damage or colour loss

History of the Internet

History of the Internet

                       The concept of data communication - transmitting data between two different places, connected via some kind of electromagnetic medium, such as radio or an electrical wire - actually predates the introduction of the first computers. Such communication systems were typically limited to point to point communication between two end devices. Telegraph systems and telex machines can be considered early precursors of this kind of communication. The earlier computers used the technology available at the time to allow communication between the central processing unit and remote terminals. As the technology evolved new systems were devised to allow communication over longer distances (for terminals) or with higher speed (for interconnection of local devices) that were necessary for the mainframe computer model. Using these technologies it was possible to exchange data (such as files) between remote computers. However, the point to point communication model was limited, as it did not allow for direct communication between any two arbitrary systems; a physical link was necessary.
              
                       The technology was also deemed as inherently unsafe for strategic and military use, because there were no alternative paths for the communication in case of an enemy attack.
As a response, several research programs started to explore and articulate principles of communications between physically separate systems, leading to the development of the packet switching model of digital networking. These research efforts included those of the laboratories of Vinton G. Cerf at Stanford University, Donald Davies (NPL), Paul Baran (RAND Corporation), and Leonard Kleinrock at MIT and at UCLA. The research led to the development of several packet-switched networking solutions in the late 1960s and 1970s, including ARPANET, Telenet, and the X.25 protocols.
         
                     Additionally, public access and hobbyist networking systems grew in popularity, including unix-to-unix copy (UUCP) and FidoNet. They were however still disjointed separate networks, served only by limited gateways between networks. This led to the application of packet switching to develop a protocol for internetworking, where multiple different networks could be joined together into a super-framework of networks. By defining a simple common network system, the Internet Protocol Suite, the concept of the network could be separated from its physical implementation. This spread of internetworking began to form into the idea of a global network that would be called the Internet, based on standardized protocols officially implemented in 1982. Adoption and interconnection occurred quickly across the advanced telecommunication networks of the western world, and then began to penetrate into the rest of the world as it became the de-facto international standard for the global network. However, the disparity of growth between advanced nations and the third-world countries led to a digital divide that is still a concern today.
   
                  Following commercialization and introduction of privately run Internet service providers in the 1980s, and the Internet's expansion for popular use in the 1990s, the Internet has had a drastic impact on culture and commerce. This includes the rise of near instant communication by electronic mail (e-mail), text based discussion forums, and the World Wide Web. Investor speculation in new markets provided by these innovations would also lead to the inflation and subsequent collapse of the Dot-com bubble. But despite this, the Internet continues to grow, driven by commerce, greater amounts of online information and knowledge and social networking known as Web 2.0.

8 important manners you should teach your children

We all want to raise our little ones to be polite and well behaved,
and learning those lessons starts at home.
It's never too early to teach your little ones basic manners!

 

Here are eight of the most important manners you should try to teach your little ones
before they go to school. They won't remember them all, or get them right every time,
but patience and perseverance should get you through:

 

1. Always say please and thank you.
Whether they're activities as small as giving your little one a snack,
or them asking if they can play in the garden, always reinforce the
importance of saying please and thank you.
No matter how young your children are, you can't start
enforcing this rule too early!

2. Table manners
When your tiny tots are just learning to eat at the table,
start teaching them the manners you'd like them to have for the
rest of their lives!
Rules like not eating with their mouths open, or not putting their
elbows on the table,are good life lessons for your children to learn
as soon as possible.

3. Play dates
When you're little ones go on play dates, or to birthday parties, remind them to
thank their friends parents for having them over. If you aren't going to be
attending the play date or event with your little one, ensure your little ones know
they should treat their friends parents (and all grown-ups)
with the same respect they treat you.

4. Birthday party etiquette
It's often said that kids go wild at birthday parties - all the sweet snacks and fun
can make little ones get excited, and sometimes forget their manners.
But no matter how excited your little one is on their birthday, there are some manners
they shouldn't forget: to open their presents thoughtfully
(not ripping off the paper,or tossing the present to one side as soon as they've seen it)
and to say thank you for every gift, and to every attendee.

5. Mind the language
There will come a moment every parent dreads: the moment your little one swears.
And then finds it funny! The worst thing you can do in this scenario is laugh.
Let them know that you already know that word, you think it's unpleasant, not funny,
and ask your little one not to use it again!

6. Don't be mean
Kids tease each other, and they find it funny.
But this can sometimes go a step too far and lead to bullying.
Make sure your little ones don't call others mean names, and don't make fun
of anyone for any reason. Ganging up on someone else is cruel, not clever.

7. Excuse me!
Once your little ones have mastered saying please and thank you,
teach them to say excuse me. It's the polite thing to say when you have to
interrupt someone, or bump into somebody.

8. TMI!
There are some things that are too much information,
and that your little ones shouldn't talk about in public!
These include genitals, poo, nose picking, and all the other gory things
that amuse kids!

How does one become a French citizen?

The Citizenship Legally, a French citizen shall enjoy civil and political rights and fulfill obligations to society. French is linked to ownership of the nationality French. 

This Citizenship can be acquired in four ways:

• by the "birthright" is considered any French child with at least one parent is French or become French;
• by the "jus soli" automatically becomes French, the child who was born in France. For children born in France of foreign parents, nationality becomes full at 18;
• by the procedure known as " naturalization " : A major foreign ordinarily resident on French soil for at least five years may apply to be naturalized. This period of residence may be reduced to two years if the applicant has successfully completed two years of study at an institution of higher learning French or has made or may make "an important service to France." In any case, since the law "Sarkozy on 26 November 2003 on the control of immigration, the stay of foreigners in France and nationality, he must prove his" assimilation into the French community "in a interview. It evaluates "its condition as" his good knowledge of French language and the rights and duties conferred by the French nationality. The candidate must also demonstrate good moral character;
• by marriage since the Act of July 24, 2006 on immigration and integration, a foreign unit at a French partner for four years may apply to acquire French nationality by declaration. The deadline is extended to five years if the applicant does not justify having resided continuously for at least three years in France after marriage or in case of residence abroad, when her husband was not enrolled in French register of French nationals living outside France. The applicant must also have a level of knowledge of French adequate, "according to his status."

From a legal perspective, nationality is a necessary but not sufficient condition for acquiring citizenship. It should also enjoy his civil and politiques.Ainsi a child, having obtained French citizenship, becomes a French citizen until age 18, age of acquiring the right to vote.

In light of this enumeration, citizenship in France, compared to other countries, seems relatively open. Indeed, French nationality seems relatively easy to obtain, particularly with regard to the German example. For the longest time, only the blood right there, and it is only recently that the law has allowed obtaining German citizenship.
